The last Government allocated national funding to a ‘disadvantage subsidy grant’, which Oxfordshire is tagging more positively as 'Go4it', available until August 2011. There were pilots in 5 partnerships in Oxfordshire over the last couple of years; Headington came on stream in the summer term 2010. Through the Partnership, young people who are economically disadvantaged can be supported in accessing out of school hours activities, aiming to promote their well-being, narrow the attainment gap and improve achievement for all.
This information leaflet explains who it is for and how the system works. There is a 2 sided form for you to request funding. You should be able to get a copy from your school office or contact Chris Blakey (
) for one or to talk to him about what you would like to do.
We still need class teachers, tutors, TAs, learning mentors, lunchtime supervisors and administrators, all of whom know the children/young people well, to guide and encourage them to 'think outside the box' for activities they may want to try.
With Go4it! funding, Headington individual young people accessed funding to : join a tennis club and have lessons, have ice skating lessons, buy ice skates, attend summer holiday sports schools, attend a Brownie holiday, have horse riding lessons, join a ballet class. Groups have had drama, theatre, music making, climbing, ice skating, gardening and street dance experiences and summer holiday activities are now being planned.
